Special Events
Mona Vale Surf Club encourage Special Events so our members are able to meet other members and also have fun!
Some of the great events we organise throughout the year include:
The annual Golf Day is held at Mona Vale Golf Club Friday November 21st. This represents a major opportunity for sponsors, club members and guests to have a fun day out, raise much needed revenue for the club and play golf in a four ball Ambrose. Please contact KAI COOPER..0410643499 for details..
Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club holds an annual Marathon Day on the third Sunday of January each year, swimming from Warriewood Beach to Mona Vale Beach - 1.6km. It is our annual fund raising event which usually has around 800 competitors swimming. Most members come to the beach to assist with the event in some capacity from time keeping to water safety.
Commencing "10am SHARP!", Sunday Events is considered one of the strongest intra club competitions on the Northern Beaches, with 50+ competitors participating in the height of the summer season. Events include a handicap surf swim, sprint relay, handicap flags, board and ski relay, and anything else that the Race Secretary cares to throw in for the morning!
Sunday Events provides a great opportunity for new members to meet others, with a focus on having fun. It also caters for all ages and abilities with the handicap system. Meet at 10am on the beach in front of the Clubhouse (you will usually hear people trying to get their handicap lowered!).
Every Sunday morning at 10am. Outside of daylight saving season (in Winter)
Q. What are Green Prawns?
A. Swimmers, of all ages and abilities, some with flippers, some with wetsuits (some with stretched sluggos, hey Stu?), who swim from the front of the Mona Vale Surf Club south to the Cook Terrace Headland then walk, or jog if you prefer, back. Or you could follow the lead of Dee and Tristan and simply turn around and swim back! Mad! After your hot shower, ‘debrief’ upstairs on the sunny balcony over some lovely homemade soup prepared by your fellow Green Prawns on a rotational basis! Winter, and there is still plenty happening down at the Club!
Incidentally, if you think the water is too cold for you, speak to Rick Harris. He’ll arrange some serious wetsuit headwear for you that apparently provides so much warmth, you won’t need to wear anything else!
ALL MEMBERS INVITED TO JOIN IN!
The Club aims for a social event each month during the season, in addition to the regular events listed above. These include:
Annual Season Opener Party
Beer Appreciation Night
Horse Race Day
Christmas Party
Anzac Weekend Club Camping/Kayaking Trip - Every year on the ANZAC weekend, the Club organises a camping trip on the Barrington River
There are also a couple of major events to watch out for;
Presentation Night - the highlight of the Club's social calendar is the Annual Dinner and Dance at which all new awards and trophies are presented.
Keep an eye out for details in the Club newsletter, or speak with one of the listed Social Committee members.
